Featured art by Jackson Ocheltree
Jackson recently moved back to his hometown of Nogales, AZ so that he could continue his work in a more focused setting. He has been blowing glass since 2010, and lived and worked inside of a glass blowing shop while studying chemistry and museum conservation in college. Jackson has always felt that glass is a "truly unique and magical material to work with, completely brittle and hard when cold, but malleable and fluid when hot". He's continuously so thrilled to have the opportunity to work with glass. He creates intricate glass orbs that contain dramatic optical illusions built in many layers of glass, starting from the inside out, pieces taking anywhere from hours to days to complete. Designs are produced by vaporizing gold and silver for pigment, often around an opal suspended inside of the piece. Jackson also incorporates a highly-reflective material, dichroic glass; initially developed for aerospace and laser technologies. His pieces are intended to transport the viewer away from reality.
